Saint Louis FC Shuts Out New England Revolution For Second Win of the Playoffs

Goals from Kipp Keller and Jeremiah Collins, along with a clean sheet from Patrick Schulte, helped Saint Louis FC defeat New England Revolution, 2-0, on Wednesday evening at the 2019 U.S. Soccer Development Academy U-18/19 Playoffs in Oceanside, Calif. Keller fired home from the penalty spot in the 55th minute and Jeremiah Collins capped the win a minute into stoppage time to keep Saint Louis FC unbeaten in Group A.

New England Revolution took control of the contest in the early going as it tested Schulte on multiple occasions in the opening stages of the match. The Revolution had the ball in the back of the net in the 12th minute as Colby Quinones momentarily looked to have opened the scoring but was whistled offside as the game remained scoreless.

The pressure continued to come from New England Revolution as Damien Rivera's shot, off a feed from Elio Firmino, was stopped by Schulte in the 20th minute and, five minutes later, Victor Viana brought Schulte into action again with an effort that was palmed up and over the crossbar.

After New England Revolution goalkeeper Austin Causey was called into action for the first time in the 35th minute, claiming a header, the Revolution created an excellent opportunity just a minute later as Kaoru Fujiwara fed Viana who rainbowed the ball over a defender and forced a terrific stop by Schulte down low to his left as the game went into the interval still knotted at 0-0.

Saint Louis FC grew more into the game after halfitme and Keller broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, converting a penalty to give his team a 1-0 lead. Jeremiah Collins earned Saint Louis FC the penalty, streaking into the box before having his feet clipped out from under him, and Keller made no mistake as he sent Causey the wrong way to give Saint Louis FC the lead.

Two minutes after the hour mark, Saint Louis FC had a chance to double its advantage as Jeremiah Collins setup Danny Collins for a chance all alone in front of goal, but Danny Collins skied his effort as the Saint Louis FC lead remained 1-0.

A free kick in a dangerous position gave New England Revolution an opportunity to pull level in the 71st minute, but Firmino was unable to get his effort on target.

New England Revolution continued to push forward trying to find an equalizer, but the Saint Louis FC defense did an excellent job of shielding its goalkeeper and closing down any opportunity created by the Revolution.

A minute into stoppage time, Jeremiah Collins sealed the win for Saint Louis FC, taking the ball off the foot of Causey and rolling it into an open net to finish the 2-0 victory.

Saint Louis FC will conclude group play on Friday at 3:30 p.m. PT, against New York Red Bulls while New England Revolution will finish Group A against Real Colorado in a match that will also kickoff at 3:30 p.m.
