2019-20 CLUB REGISTRATION

Important information for clubs regarding the registration process for the 2019-20 Development Academy season can be found here.

Staff identification is critical to ensure that the proper members of your Academy club receive the appropriate communications. For all clubs entering staff/board members to their team page within U.S. Soccer Connect, there is a drop-down list of staff roles/titles available. All staff entered must have one of the pre-populated roles/titles selected from the drop-down list.

ROSTER MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES

Roster Minimum: Clubs must meet the following minimum requirements for full-time players on each age group throughout the season. Clubs must register the minimum requirement of players by August 5th at 5 pm CT. Clubs may have the following maximum number of players for each Academy age group.

2019-20 Development Academy Roster Guidelines
Number of Teams FT Minimum
FT+PT Maximum
1 14 24
2 28 48
3 42 72
4 56 96
5 70 120
6 84 144

Academy philosophy is based on building a player pool with flexibility to move players freely between age group teams within a Club. The roster limits are the total minimum and maximum players based on the number of DA teams within the club across the age groups (U-13 to U-18/19):

  • Each Club's roster may average no more than 24 players across each age group based on the minimum of 14 Full-Time players and a maximum of 10 Part-Time players
  • Roster Maximums can vary from one age group to another so long as the FT Minimum and PT Maximum limits for number of teams are followed
  • Example for a Club with two teams: the U-13 team has 18 FT players and 8 PT players for a roster size of 26, while the U-14 team has 17 FT players and 5 PT players for a roster size of 22: the total for the two teams is till no more than 48
  • Part-time Player (PT)
    • A Part-time Player (PT) player is a player who is rostered with a DA Club or their affiliate Club that is not ready or able to contribute at the Academy level full time. This player is not playing consistently and/or enough minutes in DA games to fully develop; therefore, the player is eligible to play games outside of the DA program. The PT player consistently trains 3-4 times a week (depending on their age group) and must train with both teams; recommended 1-2x a week within the DA and 1-2x a week with the non-DA team.
    • PT Player Guide may be found here.

CONCUSSION TESTING AND PROTOCOL

Concussion Testing

  • Per Academy rules; all players must have a current and valid concussion baseline test as part of determining eligibility for the upcoming season.
This must be completed by Sept 1st
  • The Development Academy uses ImPACT as our concussion management tool
  • Testing must be completed in the U.S. Soccer database, even if an outside medical group is used to administer the tests
  • Baseline tests are valid for one (1) season if the player is under 16 years old on or before Aug 1. If the player is 16 and over on or before Aug 1, their test will be valid for 2 years.
  • Clubs will receive directions on how to gain login info, following this webinar
  • Please refer to www.ussoccerda.com/sports-medicine for guidelines on how to complete baseline and post injury concussion testing

Concussion Protocol

  • If a player sustains a concussion, they must follow the U.S. Soccer Federation Development Academy Return to Play Protocol (RTP). This process must me managed by the team's Athletic Trainer and a Physician. The Return to Play Protocol can be found here

Any questions related to medical or ImPACT testing should be emailed to DAMedical@ussoccer.org
