LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (Dec. 5, 2019)-- New York City FC U-18/19 struck twice in the first half and held off Seattle Sounders FC to register a 3-2 victory in the second day of competition in Group G at the Allstate U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Cup on Thursday afternoon.

Joe Suchecki, Julio Lansade and Oszae De Rosario tallied for NYCFC in a battle of Major League Soccer youth squads.

NYCFC took advantage of its two best first-half opportunities. In the ninth minute, Suchecki drilled home an impressive 30-yard free kick past goalkeeper Conrad Lee for a 1-0 lead. Lansade doubled it in the 39th minute, connecting from 10 yards out on the right side of the penalty area.

Seattle sliced the advantage in half on forward Alec Diaz's penalty kick in the 41st minute after Suchecki fouled Ethan Dobbelaere in the box a minute prior. Diaz sent his shot into the left side as goalkeeper Alex Rando dove to that side but could not stop the shot.

De Rosario, a second-half substitute who had an apparent goal nullified due to an offside call in the 56th minute, made amends to give NYCFC some vital breathing room in the 80th minute, scoring off a textbook counterattack.

NYCFC needed that goal because Seattle closed within one again in the 90th as Azriel Gonzalez tallied from the right edge of the six-yard box.

Defender Tayvon Gray, who signed an MLS contract as a Homegrown Player with NYCFC on Nov. 26, captained the U-18/19 side. He also represented the United States at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil in October and November, alongside teammate Andres Jasson and Sounders player Ethan Dobbelaere
