MID-AMERICA DIVISION RIVALS CLASH FOR SPOT IN GIRLS U-18/19 FINAL

SOCKERS FC (5) VS. MIDWEST UNITED FC (9) - 1:30 P.M. PT

The first U-18/19 Girls Semifinal features a clash between two Mid-America Division rivals. Sockers FC finished one point ahead of Midwest United FC in the regular season division standings and Wednesday's semifinal marks the fourth match-up between the two teams this year.

After Midwest took the teams' opening showdown in October 3-0, the teams traded blows in two back-and-forth games a few weeks before the Playoffs. On June 2, Midwest rallied from two goals down to top Sockers 3-2 and on June 9, Sockers came back to beat Midwest 2-1.

In the Playoffs, both teams have battled to earn their final four berths and both bring red-hot goal scorers to the semifinals. Entering the final group stage matchday with four points and needing wins to guarantee advancement, both teams rose to the occasion. After a 2-1 win over SC del Sol and a 2-2 draw with Crossfire Premier, Sockers emphatically took down No. 1 overall seed FC Virginia 3-0 on Monday with midfielder Devin Lynch bagging a brace. Forward Hannah Richardson has been one of the nation's top scorers all season, leading the Central Conference with 31 goals.

After an impressive 3-0 win against 2018 semifinalist Solar Soccer Club, Midwest United drew 2-2 with NEFC and the nation's best offense. Needing three points to secure its spot in the semifinals, Midwest United answered the call with a 4-1 victory over Legends FC powered by a hat trick from Stephanie Currie. Jennifer Blitchok, one of the top scorers in the Central Conference, has also provided firepower this season with 16 goals.
