TOPHAT AND LA GALAXY SAN DIEGO DRAW WHILE BEACH FC OVERCOMES CHARLOTTE SOCCER ACADEMY ON DAY 4 OF SPRING SHOWCASE

Tophat and LA Galaxy San Diego drew at the U-15 level while at the U-16/17 age group, Beach FC held on for a 2-1 victory over Charlotte Soccer Academy in two East vs. West showdowns.

U-15 - Tophat 1, LA Galaxy San Diego 1

LA Galaxy San Diego got off to a flying start when Lily O'Grady headed home a free kick after just two minutes. Galaxy played smart and compact, not allowing Tophat's creative forwards to carve out any openings and took a 1-0 lead into the break. The Georgia side grew into the game however, and persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when Rhonda Ojongmboh laid the ball off for Tori DellaPeruta to smash the equalizer into the far corner. Both sides continued to press, but the winner proved to be elusive. In the end a draw was a fair result.

U-16/17 - Beach FC 2, Charlotte Soccer Academy 1

In a rematch of last year's Academy Playoff game (a 2-2 draw) Charlotte Soccer Academy and Beach FC took turns attacking each other from the first whistle. Beach FC landed the first blow in the 27th minute as Makayla DeMelo served up a delightful cross for Mia Escandon to score with the outside of her outstretched right foot. Just past the hour mark DeMelo got on the scoresheet again when she unleashed an absolute rocket to give Beach FC a 2-0 lead. Beach seemed to be firmly in the driver's seat, but Asha Means changed the complexion of the match in the 66th minute when she picked up the ball 40 yards from goal and skipped past two defenders before burying her shot in the far corner. Charlotte came close to an equalizer, but second-half goalkeeper Samantha Ciccone made some crucial saves to preserve all three points for the California-based club.
