SAN DIEGO SURF U-16/17 TAKES DOWN DALLAS TEXANS 2-1 IN FINAL SPRING SHOWCASE FEATURE GAME

The feature games at the 2019 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Spring Showcase concluded with an exciting final match between the Dallas Texans and San Diego Surf at the U-16/17 age group. Both teams played the full 90 minutes at a high tempo that produced plenty of drama to bring the Showcase to a rousing conclusion.

The San Diego Surf came back for the second-straight game to take a 2-1 victory over Dallas and finish the Showcase a perfect 3-0 in the process. The Surf started the game as the brighter of the two sides but the Texans did well to weather the storm and turn the tide. In the 16th minute Brenna Thompson carved open the Surf back line with a through ball for Vyviene Spaulding. The right forward calmly rounded the goalkeeper before dispatching the ball into the net to give the Texans a 1-0 lead.

Both sides made a plethora of substitutions at halftime, but it was Hillary Schroeder who made the biggest impact, constantly putting the Texans' defense under duress. It was no surprise that she grabbed the equalizer in the 67th minute.

The Surf continued to press and found the game-winner seven minutes later. Avery Nicholas outwitted the offsides trap and deftly lifted the ball over the onrushing 'keeper to give the Surf the victory. The win ensured that they finished the showcase a perfect three-for-three while grabbing their eighth straight victory.
