FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE SPRING SHOWCASE

The Girls' Development Academy will take center stage at the end of the month in Commerce City, Colo., as more than 3,300 of the nation's top female youth soccer players will gather for the 2019 Development Academy Spring Showcase.

Dick's Sporting Goods Park will host the U-14, U-15, U-16 and U-16/17 age group teams from every Girls' Academy club. Here are five things to know about the event.

WHAT IS THE SHOWCASE?

A centerpiece of the Academy program, Showcase events bring together clubs from across the country for highly-competitive, hand-selected games. Held seasonally in the fall, winter, spring and summer, the Spring Showcase is the only event solely focused on the Girls' Academy. The schedule is designed to match up teams against opposition that they don't usually face in the course of regular season play. The crossover games are selected based on level of competition, style of play, location and other factors to ensure the most meaningful games.

Showcase games count towards teams' overall standings, and the slate of stellar showdowns at the event will prove critical to teams as they begin their final pushes towards the Girls' Academy's 32 playoff berths, awarded to the top three teams in each of seven divisions as well as 11 wild card teams.

Last year's inaugural Spring Showcase was held just outside Greensboro, N.C., and Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. in the suburbs of Denver will be home to this year's event.

A few weeks ago, the same venue hosted to the U.S. Women's National Team as part of its "Countdown to the Cup Tour." Alex Morgan scored her historic 100th goal just a stone's throw away from where the future stars of American women's soccer will take the field in Colorado.

WHO'S COMING?

Every Girls' Academy team at the U-14, U-15 and U-16/17 age groups will travel to Denver for the Spring Showcase. U-16 teams will also be in attendance, as part of the pilot program in the Southwest and Frontier Divisions before the age group is fully installed next season.

A PLACE TO BE SEEN

U.S. Soccer Talent Identification will be out in full force at the Showcase- twenty-four scouts, the three Talent ID managers based around the country and Director of Talent ID Mirelle van Rijbroek will all be on the ground in Colorado. A number of Youth National Team staff members will also be on-site to evaluate players for future YNT call-ups.

The Showcase offers a prime opportunity for U.S. Soccer staff to evaluate legions of talented players in one place. Over 70 percent of Women's Youth National Team call-ups from the U-14 Girls' National Team to the U-18 WNT came from the Academy in 2018. Every youth club player called to last summer's 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup played in the Academy, while 16 of the 21 players who represented the USA at the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup also came from the Academy.

The Spring Showcase also serves as a hot spot for college recruiting. More than 220 college coaches have already pre-registered to attend the event.
