OCEANSIDE, Calif. (June 23, 2018)-- Goals from Olivia Moultrie and Lucy Curran led Beach Futbol Club to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over FC Fury NY on Saturday on the opening day of group stage games in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Girls' U-15 Playoffs. Fury went into halftime with a two-goal advantage, but a flurry of two goals in three minutes for Beach Futbol Club boosted the Long Beach-based club to the win.

In the eighth minute, Beach Futbol Club found the game's first good chance off of a free kick from about 35 yards out on the left side. Moultrie played the ball across the box to Natalia Huntington lurking at the back post, but FC Fury NY goalkeeper Isabella Penaranda reacted well to the cross and was able to smother the shot.

Beach had another chance in the 16th minute as Mmasiolu Gamero collected the ball on a turn in the midfield. The forward played the ball wide to Huntington, who gave it back to Gamero streaking towards goal. Penaranda responded, coming out aggressively and making a good save on the shot by Gamero from near the top of the box.

Fury opened the scoring in the 24th on a goal from Abigail Soloman. Piper McGraw began the build-up down the left wing and found Soloman, who made her way all the way to the end line before sending a tightly-angled ball toward goal. It looped over Beach 'keeper Gabrielle Morales and into the back of the net to give NY a 1-0 lead.

Early in the second half, Fury nearly doubled its advantage. Solomon sent a cross into the box that eventually found the feet of Danielle Davis, but she fired a shot high above the crossbar.

In the 51st minute, a free kick about 25 yards from goal gave Beach its first solid chance of the second 45. Moultrie took the free kick for the Southwest Division champs and attempted to pick out the far corner, but she missed just high as FC Fury NY continued to hold a 1-0 advantage.

Four minutes later, a free kick on the other end created a dangerous chance. The Fury's Davis sent a ball in toward the top of the 18-yard box, where it was laid off to Laine DeNatale. The defender's shot never tested the Beach goal as it harmlessly flew high over the net. Just a minute later, the end-to-end action continued as Gamero tore down the right side for Beach, only to see her shot palmed away by NY substitute 'keeper Gabriella Terranova.

After another spell of back-and-forth action, Beach finally pulled even in the 68th minute. Moultrie took an in-swinging corner that bent straight into the net to even the game at 1-1. Just two minutes later, Beach claimed a lead it would not relinquish. Curran collected the ball near the half line and slalomed through nearly the entire NY defense before she slotted the ball past Terranova from just inside the 18 to give the Southwest champs a 2-1 lead.

FC Fury tried to throw numbers forward in the final ten minutes of the 80-minute contest, but Beach thwarted every attempt to secure its playoff-opening victory.

Beach Futbol Club will now face Real Colorado in its second Group H match, while FC Fury NY will meet Charlotte Soccer Academy. Both games are scheduled for Monday, June 25, at 1:15 p.m. PT.
