As the 2017-2018 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season comes to a close, only one order of business remains for the playoff age groups: punching tickets to the 2018 Development Academy Playoffs in San Diego, Calif.!

On the Boys' side of the Academy, June 2-3 marks the final weekend of games. For the Girls' program, teams jockeying for positioning have one additional weekend of fixtures, June 9-10, to make their final push towards the Academy trophy.

Academy postseason play on the Boys' side (U-16/17 and U-18/19) consisting of 32 teams from the two oldest age groups entering a draw. The top three teams in each division enter the playoffs as automatic qualifiers, and they are joined by 11 wild card teams which are based on points per game average. Teams are segmented into four groups, based on final seeding (via points per game average). The top eight teams enter pot one, 9-16 make up pot two, 17-24 form pot three and 25-32 shape out pot four. Next, one team per pot is drawn into each of the eight groups (A-H). The only exception is that no team can be matched up in a playoff group with another team from the same division. The matchups from this year's Boys' Development Academy Draw are expected to be announced on Wednesday, June 6.

After the conclusion of Girls' regular season play, matchups from the Girl's draw will be announced on Thursday, June 14. The top teams from the three oldest age groups in the Girls' Academy compete in a playoff format. Mirroring the Boys' two age groups, the top 32 finishing teams from Girls' U-15 and U-16/17 make the playoffs. At U-18/19, the top 16 teams qualify for a playoff competition. That competition will begin and end in San Diego, while the semifinalists from the other four competitions (Boys U-16/17 and U-18/19, Girls U-15 and U-16/17) travel to the U.S. Soccer National Development Center and Swope Soccer Village for the Academy Championships, July 8-11.

Ultimately, the goal of every playoff eligible team is to finish in playoff position to secure their trip to San Diego and give themselves a chance at winning their group, advancing to the knockout round quarterfinal and punching a ticket to Kansas City.

Because clubs from different regions play a slightly different number of games throughout the regular season, the final seeding of teams before each playoff draw is based on points per game average. Entering the final weekend of Boys' Development Academy play, below is the table of the top 32 teams, plus the next top 5 teams on the outside looking in.

While the final standings are not complete until every single game is played and properly recorded, the top 20 teams are a sure bet to be locked into the playoffs. Official Academy standings can be found here.

The matchups to lookout for this weekend are the last five inside the top 32 and the first five outside of the 32. This is where the greatest chance of movement can occur. Keep in mind, teams are still jockeying to move up to a higher pot, but making the playoffs is most important.
