BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. (April 10, 2018) - After a quiet first half, the scoring floodgates opened wide in the second for an exciting Spring Showcase finale feature game as FC Dallas topped Penn Fusion 5-2. Jaedyn Shaw's second half hat trick and two assists propelled Dallas past Penn to close out the Showcase and continue the Texas-based team's assault on the No. 1 seed in the Playoffs.

Penn Fusion entered the game as a team finding its rhythm after a winter-delayed opening to its spring season. The West Chester squad brought one of the stingiest defenses in the East Conference to Browns Summit. Penn's defense was able to reign in Dallas' explosive offense in the first frame, but things broke open in the second half.

On a run towards the goal in the 47th minute, a Penn defender muscled Dallas forward Maeve Jones down, earning FCD a penalty. Shaw went to the spot with a chance to open the scoring. She buried it into the left corner to give Dallas a 1-0 lead in the 49th.

A threatening run in the 59th minute earned Dallas a corner. Shaw launched a ball into the fray in front of the net, and while a teammate got her head on the ball to put up a shot, Penn Fusion goalkeeper Audrey Brown made a leaping save to deflect it over the net. With another set piece opportunity, Shaw and FC Dallas wouldn't miss. She launched another ball into the scrum in the box, and Jones headed it home towards the near post to double the Dallas lead.

Penn Fusion earned a penalty kick of its own after some pushing and shoving on a downfield free kick. In the 65th minute, Susanna Soderman coolly slotted it home to the right post and brought Penn back into the game.

Dallas continued to threaten, and Shaw recovered a loose ball from Penn in the attacking half to launch another dangerous run. She started a passing combination that skirted around Penn's tough 1-v-1 defending. Cassie Clifton found Shaw on a run up the left side, and after a move to evade a defender at the corner of the box, Shaw sent a shot to the far post past Brown to make it 3-1 FCD.

Penn refused to go down easy. A nice combination in the middle third opened things up downfield and Soderman launched a beautiful deep ball to forward Brianna Moore on a run towards the net. She outran two Dallas defenders, let the ball take a bounce then hit it past the Dallas 'keeper to keep Penn Fusion's hopes alive.

Two late goals from FC Dallas cemented the victory for the Texans. Shaw proved lethal on another corner kick in the 79th minute. She placed another ball perfectly above the melee in front of the net and Raegan Sharer rose above the crowd to head it in past Brown.

A remarkable individual effort provided the exclamation point for Shaw and FCD. She intercepted a Penn Fusion ball, saw the 'keeper' off her line and launched a shot from well outside the box. It fell just inside the far post for a sensational finish to the game and capped off an impressive individual performance.
