RECAP: LAFC SLAMMERS U-16/17 CONTINUE 22-GAME UNBEATEN STREAK WITH 4-1 WIN OVER SKY BLUE - PDA

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. (April 8, 2018) - On the third day of the 2018 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Spring Showcase, LAFC Slammers took down Sky Blue - PDA 4-1. With the win, the California squad extends its unbeaten streak to 22 games and moves to 20-2-2 on the season. The Slammers remain in first place in the Southwest Division and trail only FC Dallas U-16/17 in the nationwide playoff standings.

LAFC was quick to get on the scoreboard, breaking things open in the seventh minute of play. Attacking from the right side, Nadia Kamassah shielded off her defender to create a passing lane. Simone Jackson filtered in a ball to Kamassah, who turned and buried the ball past the 'keeper. The goal is the Slammers' 86th of the season best in the entire U-16/17 age group.

Nineteen minutes later, Kamassah netted her second goal of the game, this time off of a corner kick opportunity. After a cross was batted towards the middle of the crowd, the ball spiraled towards the feet of Kamassah, who quickly punched an attempt in to the back of the net from just a few feet away.

LAFC continued to press forward and look for one more goal to put the game on ice in the second half. The Costa Mesa side did just that in the 57th minute, this time with Jackson getting in on the scoring. Stemming from a goal kick, LAFC kept the ball's momentum going forward, twice flicking the ball upfield before Grace Watkins sent a smooth through pass towards the upper left side of the penalty box. Jackson's speed gave her an edge, providing a one-on-one opportunity with the 'keeper. After taking a touch, Jackson struck with her left foot and watched as the ball screamed past the goalkeeper's left shoulder into the net.

If the game wasn't already put away, LAFC used a corner kick opportunity in the 84th minute to seal the victory. Electing to play the ball short from the corner flag, Watkins passed to Kennedy Carter, who quickly took a touch and sent in a floating cross. Though more known for her defensive ability, LAFC's Mia Ferrentino rose up and over her marking defender and precisely angled the ball from her forehead to the far post netting to extend the Slammers lead to four.

With time running low, Sky Blue - PDA continued to fight. Madisyn Pilla fired in the squad's only goal of the day to break up the shutout.

LAFC will close out the Spring Showcase against FC Fury NY while Sky Blue - PDA looks for three points against San Jose Earthquakes.
