CLOSE MARGINS SETTLE INAUGURAL SPRING SHOWCASE FEATURE GAMES

OAKWOOD SOCCER CLUB U-15 TAKES DOWN NC COURAGE U-15 1-0 IN FIRST SPRING SHOWCASE FEATURE GAME

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. (April 7, 2018) - In the first feature game of the 2018 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Spring Showcase, Oakwood Soccer Club used a strike from Madison Carroll in the 53rd minute to propel the U-15s from Glastonbury, Conn. to a 1-0 victory to begin its three-game slate at the BB&T Soccer Complex at Bryan Park.

After the first half ended in a scoreless draw, Oakwood found its rhythm in the second. Attacking the middle of the field, a looping through pass ricocheted off an NC Courage defender to find the feet of Delaney Farinha, who battled to gain possession in the box. She spotted her teammate lurking towards the top of the penalty box and left the ball off for Carroll. With two defenders in front of her, Carroll cut to her right to beat the first defender, back to her left to create a lane to goal and then calmly placed her attempt into the far side netting.

"This team is one of the best teams I have ever played with," Carroll said. "I've been playing here ever since I was eight, and with all the amazing players we have, this is definitely the best team."

Up next for Oakwood is LA Galaxy San Diego (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Crossfire Premier (Redmond, Wash.), while NC Courage will look to bounce back against the San Jose Earthquakes and Dallas Texans. The ability to play teams from across the country at Showcase events is part of the Academy's philosophy to bring together a variety of competition to create meaningful match-ups.

NIFTY PASSING SENDS LA GALAXY SAN DIEGO U-15 PAST CINCINNATI DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY 1-0

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. (April 7, 2018) - In the second game of the inaugural U.S. Soccer Development Academy Spring Showcase, LA Galaxy San Diego's U-15s used a second-half strike from Emily Colton to earn a 1-0 win over Cincinnati Development Academy.

After a missed clearance attempt from the Cincinnati defense in the 51st minute, LA Galaxy San Diego made all the right moves to capitalize on the opportunity. As the ball broke free, Colton began to make her run. After she motioned to striker Evva Vail to send her through, Vail did just that and played a beautiful ball for Colton to run onto. After she beat two defenders near the top of the box, she had just the goalkeeper to beat. The attacking midfielder struck with her left foot, and placed the ball in the back of the net.

"In the first half, I was taking lots of shots," Colton said. "They were going over, missing right and left. In the second half, I came out thinking to myself, 'I'm going to get a goal'. Our 11 got the ball, she played a through ball to me right down the center and basically I took a touch with my left and slotted it in the corner."

With both teams in contention for the upcoming Summer Playoffs, the squads will look to find six points to finish their Spring Showcase itineraries in Browns Summit. LA Galaxy San Diego will face Oakwood Soccer Club and Eclipse Select Soccer Club, while Cincinnati looks to rebound against Charlotte Soccer Academy and Reign Academy.
