RECAP: San Diego Surf U-15 Opens Girls' Winter Showcase with 3-0 Shutout of Sockers FC

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2017) - The San Diego Surf improved to 6-2-3 this year with a 3-0 win against Sockers FC of Chicago in a matchup of U-15 sides on the first day of the inaugural 2017 U.S. Soccer Girls' Development Academy Winter Showcase at the Premier Sports Campus.

Following a loss for Surf in their last game on Nov. 18 to Pateadores, head coach Paul Dolinsky was hoping for a strong performance from his team and he got it. In the 23rd minute Surf's leading scorer Dorrian Savage took a powerful shot from distance that was headed into the net if not for a tremendous save from Sockers' goalkeeper Zoe Weeks who pushed the ball over the crossbar. It was Weeks' 10th start of the season for Sockers.

Three minutes later, Savage found herself in the perfect spot to take advantage of a rebound in front of the net to score her eighth goal of the season in 10 games. Her teammate Hillary Schroeder took the initial shot from the left side, but Weeks' did well to push it out. The ball then went to the right side where Savage was perfectly positioned to knock it in.

A few minutes later, Schroeder had another opportunity and this time got on the scoreboard, making it 2-0 in the 32nd with a shot inside the side netting. In the final minutes of the game, a throw-in from the left side led to a scramble in front of the goal where 14-year-old Tyla Ochoa did well to tap in for the final 3-0 score line.
