PREVIEW: U-15 AGE GROUP KICKS OFF FIRST FEATURE GAMES OF GIRLS' WINTER SHOWCASE

The 2017 U.S. Soccer Girls' Development Academy Winter Showcase kicks off on Dec. 6 with the two featured games for the Under-15 age group. The regional battles will pit the San Diego Surf against Sockers FC (SoCal vs. the Midwest) while the Concorde Fire meet Lonestar SC Academy (the South vs. Texas) in the first day of competition at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.

A total of 12 teams will have the opportunity to play in Showcase games which are being streamed live on the Development Academy Facebook page, U.S. Soccer YouTube channel and ussoccerda.com.

Here's a preview of the two marquee matchups from the U-15 age group taking place on Wednesday, Dec. 6:

SAN DIEGO SURF U-15 (SAN DIEGO, CALIF.) VS. SOCKERS FC U-15 (CHICAGO) - 11:30 a.m. ET

Surf head coach Paul Dolinsky's squad comes into the game sitting in fifth place with a 5-2-3 record in the highly competitive Southwest Division. The team has had an up-and-down season so far, but is still in playoff position and hoping to bounce back during the Winter Showcase. The San Diego side will also look to produce more consistency in front of the net this week in Lakewood Ranch.

Nine different players have scored for the Surf in this inaugural Academy season, led by center forward Dorrian Savage. She has been highly productive so far, pacing the team with seven goals in nine games. Goalkeeper Isabella Grust has started nine of her team's 10 games. The Surf is looking to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to the Pateadores on Nov. 18 and Dolinsky says his team will be hungry for a positive result.

Sockers head coach Trey Bradberry's side comes into the game with 4-2-3 record in the Mid-America Division and have put in consistent performances this season, led by defender Angelina Galo, midfielders Madison Mariani and Alexa Ordaz and forward Meghan Economos. Goalkeeper Zoe Weeks has started all nine games this fall. Like their opponents, the Sockers sit in fifth place in their division, but in playoff position.

CONCORDE FIRE U-15 (ATLANTA) VS. LONESTAR SC ACADEMY (AUSTIN, TEXAS) - 2:30 p.m. ET

The Concorde Fire (7-0-2), led by head coach James Harris, have yet to lose this year and sit near the top of the Southeast Division, making a difficult task for Lonestar SC Academy (5-3-3) as the Texas club will look to put a first "L" on the Atlanta team's record.

The Fire have obviously been in good form this year, but are hoping to shake off a bit of rust after the Thanksgiving break. Forward Ayo Oke leads the team with 11 goals, while midfielder Simi Awujo has found the net seven times. Goalkeeper Maria Kemp has been in the net for all nine games.

Lonestar SC, led by head coach Brian Monaghan, have had to make some big adjustments in the defense as the club lost one of its top players, center back and captain Olivia Coleman, due to an injury. The new center back partnership of 8th-grader Cori James and converted-fullback Sabrina Blount has been working its way into form. Lonestar played well in its most recent game, a 1-0 loss to FC Dallas. The lone goal in that contest came with just three minutes left, so motivation will be high as the squad comes into the Showcase. Lonestar's confidence has been building through the fall campaign as the team has been gelling over the course of the season's first half. Lonestar has spread the goals around through 11 games, with two players scoring four times and two more with three goals each.
