RECAP: NYC TOPS FC DALLAS 2-1 IN MLS BATTLE TO CLOSE OUT BOYS' WINTER SHOWCASE

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (Dec. 4, 2017) - New York City FC used a stoppage time penalty kick from Joe Sucheki to see off FC Dallas 2-1 in a battle of U-16/17 MLS Academy sides on the final day of the 2017 U.S. Soccer Boys Development Academy Winter Showcase at Premier Sports Campus.

After a testy early going, New York City FC got on the board with a well-worked goal. Finding space on the right, midfielder Colman Kim chipped a cross to the back post where Augustus McGiff nodded home from the doorstep to give NYCFC the 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.

Dallas got on the front foot after the break and nearly equalized in the 63rd minute when a cross from the right skipped just past the foot of Beni Redzic at the left post.

The forward would make no mistake two minutes later though, when a measured cross from Julian Hinojosa on the left picked out Redzic, who beat NYCFC goalkeeper Ethan Wodd to the ball and headed home from the penalty spot in the 65th minute.

Just as things looked like they would end in a 1-1 deadlock, New York City FC earned a penalty following a foul in the box on a corner kick in the 87th minute. After some protest from FC Dallas players, Sucheki stepped up and calmly slotted the ball to the left of goalkeeper Seth Wilson to hand the side a 2-1 victory.
