PREVIEW: MLS CLASH, LA-CHICAGO SHOWDOWN HIGHLIGHT DAY 3 OF BOYS' WINTER SHOWCASE

Sharing the spotlight with the 2017 Men's Nike International Friendlies is the 2017 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase. While loads of games will occur during the event from Nov. 30-Dec. 4 at Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., 12 teams will have the opportunity to play in showcase games on the facility's stadium field with all six games being streamed live on the Development Academy Facebook page, U.S. Soccer YouTube channel and ussoccerda.com.

Here's a preview of the two marquee matchups from the U-16/17 age group taking place on Saturday, Dec. 2:

PHILADELPHIA UNION U-16/17 (WAYNE, PA.) VS. SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC U-16/17 (TUKILA, WASH.) - 11:00 a.m. ET

The day's first feature game is an East-West MLS clash, as the Philadelphia Union take on Seattle Sounders FC. Days after the Sounders first team clinched a spot in the MLS Cup for the second-straight year, the U-16/17 side will look to continue their undefeated start to the season.

The Sounders take the field without three of their top players, all called to duty with the U-17 Men's National Team for the Nike International Friendlies. Alfonso Ocampo Chavez, Josh Atencio and Ray Serrano will all represent the USA at the event, Serrano's 12 goals are second in the Academy.

The call-ups are just three of 11 players from the 2002 birth year that have played up with the Sounders U-16/17 this season. These younger players have made their mark on Seattle's first half of the season. Beyond the trio of National Team players, Daniel Robles is third on the team in scoring with six goals.

The Union are coming off a tight 0-0 draw against Chicago-area Sockers FC in its first match-up of the Showcase. The club from the City of Brotherly Love sits at third place in the Atlantic Division standings, currently in one of the Eastern Conference's final playoff spots.

The Union are anchored by a diligent back-line, managed by the consistent John Wagner. In the midfield, Cole Turner sees the field well and is an exceptional distributor. Julian Anderson plays the number 10, his on-field movement makes him a dangerous attacker.

FC GOLDEN STATE U-16/17 (PASADENA, CALIF.) VS. SOCKERS FC U-16/17 (PALATINE, ILL.) - 2:00 p.m. ET

The day's second matchup pits the City of Angels against the Windy City. From the Chicago suburbs, Sockers FC has a storied legacy, producing Men's National Team players like Michael Bradley, Jonathan Spector and Jay DeMerit.

The current iteration of the Sockers have had a stellar start to the season, going undefeated in the first nine games of their fall campaign. Forward Stefan Stojanovic leads the charge for the club, scoring 11 goals in seven appearances, good for fourth in the Academy. He's fresh off of an appearance with the U-18 Men's National Team, who held its final camp of 2017 from Nov. 19 to 26 in Chula Vista, Calif. He's also been called up for competition at the U-16 level, most recently at this summer's International Dream Cup in Tokyo, Japan.

Cade Hagan, the youngest player on Sockers' roster this season is playing with the U-17 MNT at the Nike Friendlies. He's scored three goals this season, equaled by midfielders Tim Bielic and Robert Matei.

FC Golden State enters the Showcase with a 6-3-2 record and currently sit at third place in the Southwest Division standings. The team plays out of the back, led by defenders Abraham Gonzalez and Victor Rangel. Both players were called to the U-16 MNT roster this spring, where they joined Stojanovic for the Tournament of Montaigu in Montaigu, France.

Juan Cruz spearheads the SoCal club's offensive efforts, as the fast and skillful forward leads the team with seven goals. Cory Johnson is another key contributor, hard-working and tenacious in the midfield.
