Day Five of Development Academy Showcase Highlighted by Second Games of Group Play

The second game day of the 2017 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs took place on Saturday at Grand Park. A total of 32 playoff games took place on a beautiful afternoon with an average of 3.03 goals scored per game.

In Group C of the U-15/16 Playoffs, Houston Dynamo defeated LA Galaxy 4-2 while Philadelphia Union earned a 4-3 win over Vancouver Whitecaps, giving everyone in the group three points heading into Monday's final round of group games. Mujeeb Murana scored a pair of goals for the Dynamo against LA Galaxy while Liam O'Brien scored in 79th minute to lift Philadelphia to its win over Vancouver.

Sporting Kansas City claimed its second win in two games in Group E with a 3-1 victory over Pateadores, moving to the top of the group with six points. Weston FC moved to four points in the group with a 1-0 victory over Everton FC Westchester. Sporting Kansas City and Weston FC will meet on Monday to determine the group winner.

The 2015-16 U-15/16 champion, FC Dallas, moved to 2-0 on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over New York City FC in Group F. Crew SC Academy Wolves is second in the group on four points after Nick Stone's 80th minute goal gave the Crew a 1-1 draw against Baltimore Armour. FC Dallas and Crew SC Academy Wolves will meet on Monday.

In Group H, New York Red Bulls won a local New York area rivalry against BW Gottschee Academy, 5-0; Scott Taylor scored three goals for the Red Bulls in the victory. The other result in Group H was a 1-0 victory for Seattle Sounders over Sockers FC on a 70th minute goal from Azriel Gonzalez as Seattle moved to the top of the group with six points.

In the U-17/18 Playoffs, all four teams in Group C have three points after New York Red Bulls defeated Beachside Soccer Club, 1-0, and 2015-16 U-17/18 champion FC Dallas downed Seattle Sounders, 3-2. Omir Fernandez scored the lone goal in the 66th minute of New York's victory while Daniel Evans scored a pair of goals as FC Dallas built a 3-0 lead then held off a late comeback by the Sounders.

Group E is led by Lonestar SC Academy and Real So Cal, both of whom have four points. Connor Presley scored a pair of goals as Lonestar defeated Philadelphia Union 3-1 on Saturday while Real So Cal scored twice in the final two minutes to tie Crew SC Academy Wolves, 2-2. Lonestar SC Academy and Real So Cal will meet in a top of the table clash on Monday.

In Group G, the hometown club, Indiana Fire moved to six points as Thomas Warr scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Pateadores. Orlando City SC also moved to six points in Group G with a 2-1 win over Players Development Academy. Indiana Fire and Orlando City SC will meet to determine the Group G winner on Monday night in the Grand Park Stadium Field at 7:00 p.m.

Real Salt Lake AZ and Vancouver Whitecaps FC each earned a point on Saturday and will meet on Monday to win Group H. Real Salt Lake AZ tied Crew SC Academy, 2-2, while Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Dallas Texans played to a 0-0 draw.

The final games of group play in the Academy Playoffs will take place on Monday, June 26. The U-15/16 Playoffs will kick off at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., while the U-17/18 Playoffs are set for 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

The two feature games will be played in the Grand Park Stadium Field, #1. Both games will see one team win the group and advance to the Academy Knockout Round at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif., from July 6-7. The feature games from Westfield, Ind. will be streamed live on the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Facebook page.

First, the U-15/16 playoff game will kick off at 4:00 p.m., with FC Dallas meeting Crew SC Academy Wolves. The evening lineup expects to draw a full house with the hometown club, Indiana Fire, taking on MLS side Orlando City SC. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be the final action played on the 7th day of the Development Academy Summer Showcase and Playoffs event.
